Three steps

How it
works.

  1. 01

Add your PDF. We look inside to see how much room there is to shrink.

  2. 02

Pick a target: 500 KB, 1 MB, 2 MB, 5 MB or your own number.

  3. 03

Download the result. If the target can't be reached safely, you see the closest size instead.

Details

Good
to know.

Lossless first
The first attempt removes waste without touching quality. Image quality is only lowered if that isn't enough — one step at a time.
Honest results
The exact byte count is always shown. If your target can't be met without wrecking readability, we say so instead of pretending.
What shrinks
Scans and photos shrink the most. Text-only PDFs are already compact, so expect small savings there.
Sizes are decimal
1 MB here means 1,000,000 bytes, so the result also fits upload forms that count 1 MB as 1,048,576 bytes.

FAQ

Questions
answered.

01How do I get a PDF under a specific size?

Choose a target such as 1 MB or type your own. TheFileConvert first tries a lossless clean-up, then steps down image quality only as far as needed, and stops at the first result that fits.

02What if my PDF can't get that small?

You'll see the closest size we could reach without making the pages unreadable, with the exact number of bytes. We never label a result as reaching your target when it didn't.

03Will text stay sharp?

Text and vector graphics are kept as they are. Only embedded images (scans and photos) are re-encoded, so a text-only PDF has little room to shrink.

04Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Compression runs inside this browser tab. The file is never sent to a server.
