Details

Good
to know.

What comes across
Headings, paragraphs, bold, italic and underline, colours, bulleted and numbered lists, tables, pictures, page breaks, margins, headers and footers with page numbers, links and footnotes.
Fonts
Calibri, Arial, Times New Roman and Courier New are drawn with open fonts of exactly the same width, so lines and pages break where Word breaks them. Other fonts use the closest match.
What may differ
Text wrapped around pictures, text boxes, equations and unusual fonts. Complex Word layouts may vary slightly from Microsoft Word.
Old .doc files
Only .docx is supported. Open a .doc in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice and save it as .docx first.

FAQ

Questions
answered.

01Will the PDF look exactly like my Word document?

Very close for everyday documents. Text, headings, bold and italic, lists, tables, pictures, page breaks, headers and footers come across, and Word's standard fonts are drawn with fonts of the same width, so lines and pages break in nearly the same places. Complex Word layouts — text wrapped around pictures, text boxes, unusual fonts — may vary slightly from Microsoft Word.

02Can I convert an old .doc file?

Not yet — only .docx (Word 2007 and later). Open the .doc in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice, save it as .docx, then convert it here.

03Is my document uploaded?

No. The document is read and the PDF is drawn inside this browser tab. Nothing is sent to a server.

04Does it work with password-protected documents?

Not with ones that need a password to open. Remove the password in Word (File → Info → Protect Document), save, then convert.
